Hemoglobin is a metalloprotein in erythrocytes erythroid cells. It is an oxygen-carrying protein from the lungs towards the body. Hemoglobin is also abbreviated as “Hb” or “Hgb”. Hemoglobin is produced in the bone marrow then stored in the erythroid cells or red blood cells (RCBs).
Chemically Hemoglobin consists of four subunits of the protein named Beta-globin (2 subunits) and Alpha-globin (2 subunits).
